On June 27, 2023, the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration reported the presence of 1.45 g/kg of saccharin, and 12.95 g/kg of cyclamate in a batch of Alcohol Grapefruit Flavored Magnesium Foaming Lozenges named E.ELKOS VIVEDE MAGNUMESIUM FOAMING LOZEN (E.ELKOS VIVEDE MAGN. BRAUSETABL)” exported from Germany.
The Taiwan FDA reminds that, according to the “Scope of Use, Limits and Specification Standards for Food Additives”, the dosage of the sweetener saccharin in liquid dietary supplements shall be less than 0.08 g/L, and the dosage of Cyclohexylsulfonamide acid shall be less than 0.4 g/L for Cyclamate, and the total sum of the dosage of each sweetener divided by the standard for dosage shall not be greater than 1 when the sweeteners are used in a mixture; the sum of the dosage of each sweetener divided by its dosage standard (i.e., dosage/standard of dosage) shall not be greater than 1, and this case does not comply with the provisions of Article 18 of the Food Safety and Hygiene Control Law.
